PureBooks is a book safety scanner for families. Scan any book barcode and get an instant colour-coded rating based on the content. We check for explicit content, LGBT themes, violence, drug use, and other content that families may wish to be aware of before reading.
Ratings come from three sources, in order of priority:
1. PureBooks database โ books manually reviewed by our team. These show a โฆ verified badge.
2. AI analysis โ if not in our database, Claude AI analyses the title, description and categories.
3. Keyword classifier โ a backup system that checks for known content keywords.

PureBooks ("we", "us", "our") is a book safety rating service accessible at purebooks.app. By using PureBooks, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.
PureBooks is provided for personal, non-commercial use. You must not misuse the service, attempt to access it by means other than through our interface, or use it to harm others.
Book ratings are provided as guidance only. While we use AI analysis and manual review, ratings may not always be accurate. We accept no liability for decisions made based on our ratings. We recommend always previewing books yourself, especially for children.
Paid subscriptions are billed monthly through Stripe. You may cancel at any time. No refunds are issued for partial months. Prices are in GBP and include VAT where applicable.
You are responsible for content you add to your reading diary. We reserve the right to remove content that violates these terms.
Book cover images and descriptions are sourced from Google Books and Open Library APIs. PureBooks does not claim ownership of third-party content.
PureBooks is provided "as is". We are not liable for any damages arising from use of this service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid in the last 12 months.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

We collect your email address and password when you register. We store the books you add to your reading diary, including title, author, ISBN, and your reading status. We do not collect your real name unless you provide it.
Your data is used solely to provide the PureBooks service โ account login, storing your reading diary, and managing your subscription. We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.
We use Supabase for secure data storage, Stripe for payment processing, and Anthropic Claude for AI book analysis. Book information is retrieved from Google Books and Open Library. Each has their own privacy policy.
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us.
We use only essential cookies required for login sessions. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.

Passwords are encrypted. Data is stored securely on Supabase servers with row-level security. Payment data is handled entirely by Stripe and never stored by us.
